No sooner did we say we didn't need rain and the heavens opened

Everyone evacuated from the salt, it's under water now, huge storm, thunder and lightning, clear skies now but racing finished for the day. Damn!

Down time....we do not need rain!

Progress

We upped the main jets from 880 to 940 and increased our revs to 6,750 rpm. With the lower gearing we just ran 112, as good as our best but with the lower gearing, so significant progress. We are upping the mains again to 1,000 and are in the queue to try again. If we can now rev to 7,000 we will put back the higher gearing for a shot at 120+

Brough Superior

Our good friend, Eric Patterson, posing by the Brough he is riding here at Bonneville.

Taking a break

From late night adjustments to the bike in the motel car park. Beer o'clock!

Weather has taken a turn for the worse!

But we remain in the queue, hopeful as ever

Classic bike guide.. Out now!

Another run this morning

Sorry to say we didn't improve our times after the changes we made, so next step is the gearing. I'm hitting a brick wall at 6,000 rpm in both 4th and 5th gear.

Mmmmm nice ride!

This gentleman travels to Bonneville from Canada each year in his Rolls Royce, towing a bike trailer with his partially streamlined Trident. Best speed? 195 mph, wow!!

Waiting for the next run.

Record broken!

First run at 112mph but a slight headwind on the return and a density altitude of 250ft higher meant our return run was slightly slower at 109 but still got us the record. We've decided to take a chance and have the engine sealed to try and better the record as we feel we have another 10-20 mph in the bike. If we blow the engine before it is  inspected we lose the record, but this way we don't have to tear down after each record run, not until we feel we have achieved as much as we feel we can. We're running very rich, so dropping the main jets from 840 to 820 to start with.

'Nuff said!

Record first run, return run in a few minutes

The BUB record for our class is just 92mph, set last year on a Buell.

We just ran 112mph to qualify for a return run. If we take it we have to strip the heads for capacity checking, so if we are comfortable we can run faster we won't take the record and try again later.

Honey bucket, might be needing this later!

Pre-staging at dawn, in the queue for our first run

Bonneville.

Safely through tech inspection

We have the stickers we need to race, now we will start the bike and try and set it up for the conditions. A few practice runs and we may take our first run later today.

First day racing

Live from the salt, apologies for the picture sizing, trying to keep everyone updated with the minimum of fuss, we are under quire a lot of pressure getting the bike setup right and handling the heat. We should be taking the bike down to tech for inspection in an hour or so then hopefully we will get our first run later today. Thanks to all our sponsors for helping us get here.
